A year ago, I met a man and decided he was emotionally unavailable.

I had the language for it. I had the standards. I had done the work. And I was wrong — not about him, about myself.

In this episode I'm turning forty and telling the truth about what that actually looked like. Not the fireworks. The quiet year underneath it: preparing for the South of France, hand-making gift boxes that said Welcome to Your Champagne Empress Era for every woman but myself, and then June arriving and everything shifting so fast I couldn't understand the speed — until I realized nothing had ever actually been released.

My soul knew. My human decided he was unavailable.

I'm also naming something I think a lot of you are standing in without words for it yet. We've been living in the era of devotion, of pleasure, of receiving — and it gave us something real. But it was one half. We've been handed two menus: the dark feminine who is magnetic and untouchable, or the soft feminine who is open and unprotected. And most of us don't live our lane, we perform it.

The Velvet Era is the fusion. Velvet is soft you can feel — but it has weight, it has structure, it drapes over something. That's her.

You don't trade the independent woman for the held woman. It's not a trade. It's a stack.

In this episode:

  • Why forty didn't hand me the "after" photo I expected — and what the last year actually did
  • The difference between attachment and unfinished business, and how to feel it in your body
  • Why the armor doesn't just protect you, it diagnoses for you
  • The false choice between dark feminine and soft feminine — and what it costs to perform either one
  • Letting go of the outcome without letting go of the standard
  • The question to sit with this week: is he not meeting me, or is there no room in me to be met?

"I still know when to walk away. But I'm not walking away before I've gone into the softness."

You don't have to earn it. You just have to embody it.
